Here are some of the main highlights of why we think you are going to love OneNote for Mac.

Create your notes as you wish

Similar to other Office for Mac applications, OneNote for Mac has the Ribbon user interface with a variety of options for formatting and styling your notes. Your notes can be styled however you like. You can choose that special font and color you like to use for your notes, or emphasize important content with bold, underline or highlights.

Sometimes notes contain lists. Whether it’s an invitees list for a party, or the checklist you use for traveling, you can manage your lists using multiple levels of bullets and numbering, and with quick shortcut keys you can re-order, strikethrough, format and more. In addition, if you want to remember, flag or track specific items, you can choose from over 20 styles of tags, such as a To Do tag to check off completed items.

A picture is worth a thousand words, so we make it easy for you to insert pictures in your notes and place them anywhere on your page. And when your notes are best organized in a table, you can easily do so with a variety of table formatting options, such as cell shading colors.

One of the unique characteristics of a page in OneNote is that it’s an infinite canvas where you can lay out different note containers with different content types anywhere you like on the page.

Familiar notebook experience

Your notes are structured in each OneNote notebook with sections and pages similar to paper notebooks. You can create a separate notebook for each of the different projects or aspects of your life, such as work, family, school and travel notebooks.

For instance, you can set up a travel notebook with a section for each of your upcoming trips. Each section can contain multiple pages for itinerary information, such as hotel research, flight options, sights to see and places to eat.

To help you easily find your notes and stay organized, you can re-arrange your notebook as you like, including dragging the pages and sections to change their order or location. And you can apply a color theme to sections to identify them at a glance.

Rest assured, you don’t have to remember where you placed each note. You can very quickly find any text, page, section or notebook by using search options.

Share your notes with others

Whether you’re working on a school project or planning an event with friends, OneNote for Mac enables you to collaborate with others on the same notebook. It syncs changes to and from OneDrive seamlessly and fast so that you can see everyone else’s edits and they can see yours. We make it easy for you to identify the changes made in your shared notebook by displaying the names of the different authors next to their edits.

Or, if you want to just share a specific page in your notebook you can simply email that page to others.

Your notes on all your favorite devices

We know how important it is for you to access your notes on all of your devices and for your notes to look exactly the same as you created them. Add a recipe to OneNote on your Mac, and you can view it on your iPhone in the grocery store. Research and plan a trip on your Mac at home and then easily access those same notes on your iPad during your trip.

Microsoft has a growing fleet of add-ins. At last count there were more than 2000 of these little apps across in the Microsoft Store.

As it isn’t possible to cover the entire Office ecosystem, we will focus on five main Office software and the add-ins for them. You will also see that many add-ins work with more than one of the tools mentioned below.

Excluded from this list are Microsoft SharePoint, Teams, and Projects. Let’s start with…

Microsoft Word add-ins

Microsoft Word in 2020 is better than ever. But when you want it to do even more (for instance, improve your writing) then add-ins can give that extra help. Here are ten add-ins you should consider.

1. Word Training and Tips

Benefit: Become a better Microsoft Word user.

Microsoft Excel add-ins

Microsoft Excel is about cold data. But these Excel add-ins not only help you bring in different types of data, but also design visually appealing spreadsheets.

Think of it as a reverse search engine for the function you want to use. You can add your own data transformation code into the collection.

5. Quandl

Benefit: Use financial, economic and alternative datasets from the Quandl marketplace.

You can not only pull a Quandl dataset into Excel in minutes but also crunch through them with the advanced queries built into the add-in.

The add-in is free, but the Quandl datasets have to be purchased.

6. People Graph

Benefit: Create beautiful visualizations from your data.

An infographic is better than a bland spreadsheet for presenting your data. There are charts and colorful design tools in Excel, but this add-in helps to make data more vivid.

Use the three chart types, different shapes, and colorful themes to make any stat easier to understand.

Microsoft PowerPoint add-ins

1. PowerPoint Training and Tips

5. Selection Manager

Benefit: Manage overlapping shapes on a slide with labels.

As the name says on the tin, this free PowerPoint add-in from PPTools is a manager for overlapping shapes on slides. If you have a pile of shapes, use the add-in to give each shape a different name and then re-select the one you want to work on.

This add-in is a must have for designing animations on your slides.

6. Lucidchart Diagrams for PowerPoint

Benefit: Design diagrams, flowcharts, wireframes on your slides

Flowcharts, wireframes, mockups, and mindmaps are wonderful presentation assets. And this add-in is one of the best in the business.

Lucidchart isn’t a free add-in but the library of templates and dynamic shapes cover all types of interactive diagrams. You can also tap its real-time collaboration with version control features for setting up project workflows and UX design brainstorming sessions.

Microsoft Outlook add-ins

1. Advanced Folders Watch

Benefit: Monitor your important Outlook folders for critical messages.

Advanced Folders Watch is an advanced filtering and organization system for Outlook. It follows the email rules you set up to watch specific folders for the messages you want to be notified about.

The monitored emails can be curated in a specified folder, with links to the messages found and message texts.

Outlook allows you to set up multiple signatures for each account, but this Microsoft add-in can attach a different signature to every type of email.

Starting with my recent upgrade to OS X El Capitan (10.11) the keyboard is having a ton of problems. Sculpt ergonomic keyboard broken on Mac OS X El Capitan (10.11.1)My MS Sculpt keyboards worked great for several years on various versions of OS X and on Macbook Pro's as well as iMac's. If I type 4 letters quickly sometimes the first three repeat then I get the 4th letter.3) I have a lot of trouble with the delete/backspace key as well.Any help or ideas would be much appreciated. Microsoft sculpt ergonomic keyboard bluetooth pairing mac. I had two MS Sculpt keyboards andbought a 3rd just to make sure the problem wasn't in the hardware.I've also tested plugging in the wireless dongle directly into the computer, into a 3rd party USB hub and into the hub built into an Apple Lightning display all with no luck.Issues I see:1) Sometimes keys don't register at all. It is particularly true of the 's' key and seems a little worse as I type faster but even typing slowly I often don't get an 's'.2) Sometimes I get double or triple letters or entire letter sequences.

Outlook can be used for project management, but Evernote allows you to store the finer details of any task or collaboration and retrieve them when required.

Microsoft OneNote add-ins

OneNote is bit of a dilemma. On one hand you have OneNote for Windows 10 and on the other there's the old favorite OneNote 2016. Microsoft is encouraging everyone to move to the Windows 10 app as it sunsets the standalone OneNote 2016.

Microsoft has stopped updating OneNote 2016 but will continue to provide support, bug fixes, and security updates through October 2020 for Office 2016 support and October 2025 for extended support.

Meanwhile, OneNote for Windows 10 does not support add-ins - yet.

Some features that require add-ins in the desktop version are part of the Windows 10 app now. For instance:
