Microsoft Word Endless Save Loop Mac

Experiencing a strange thing within word all of a sudden (I'm not sure if this is through linking my documents folder to onedrive, or a recent new windows build).
When working on a document, it will no longer 'save', but rather I can only perform a 'save as', i.e ctrl+s brings up the window to select folder and file name. Even more annoyingly, once I click save, it saves the document, and then the box pops up again, and again.
Anyone experienced this or have any ideas?
Edit: And just like that it has resolved itself on its own accord. How peculiar.
I've just started having this problem. I dread contacting the Microsoft hepline. They'll either keep for hours and hours (literally) and maybe not have a clue what they are doing. I had this very problem last time. The girl on the other end insisted there was no problem. She said this because she didn't know what she was doing. I told her that when I the solution could I contact her to tell her. She did not respond.
Anyway, hope I didn't put you off, but all that to say that Word 2016 has given me endless headaches. it is so glitchy. 2013 was great. Why did they have to screw it up with Word 2016?
I now have a document finished that I cannot save. Based on the last time this happened I will lose everything since the last manual save I did. I have it hooked up to an external HD. I did unplug it to transfer some files onto a memory stick. Wondering if autosave somehow got screwed up trying to work but having nowhere to save to.
Is there anything I can do in the immediate to save my work and what can I do to rectify this problem?

Turns out they let you insert an.ico as a picture, but after doing so I got the endless save loop. Took me a while to find the problem, but after taking out all the icons it saved just fine. Microsoft document connection mac update windows 7. Sep 28, 2015  Original Post: 'MS Document Connection is installed on a Mac with OS Yosemite running. All updates have been applied for both Office for Mac 2011 and Document Connection as this is an Office 365 account user. Document Connection is installed and has been successfully connected to the correct Office 365 Sharepoint site.
